Omega Lambda Lambda 20 Historical Events

Under the guidance of 5^th District Representattive, Richard Jones, a meeting was held on Saturday November 13, 2004 at 11:15AM. Brother Charles Wilson presided over this meeting which was held on the campus of Tennessee State University in Kean Hall. The purpose of this meeting was to gauge the interest of creating a new graduate chapter in the Nashville area which would be ultimately located in Hendersonville, Tennessee. On January 20, 2005 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. International Headquarters informed Brother Bryan White that the request for chapter chartering had been accepted which included twenty-five greatly enthused charter members. We were now known by the designation, Omega Lambda Lambda Chapter #00927.
On January 23, 2005, Brother Josiah J. Sampson was elected as the chapter’s first Basileus. Brother Alphonso W. Harvey was elected as Vice-Basileus; Brother Bryan K. White was elected as Keeper of Records and Seals; Brother Sergio F. Swain was elected as the Assistant Keeper of Records and Seals; Brother Donnell K. Carson was elected as the Keeper of Finance; Brother J. Mark Freeman was elected as the chapter Chaplain; Brother Dominick T. Koger was elected as Editor to the Oracle; and Brother John D. Tate was elected as the Keeper of Peace.
Brother Bryan White was elected as the 22^nd Fifth District Representative in 2015 and served in that role until 2019. At the 77^th Fifth District Meeting, Brother White was elected as the 25^th Fifth District Representative. Brother White is the first ever fifth district brother to be elected twice as a District Representative. Brother Andre Anderson was elected as the District Director of Public Relations in 2023. Brother Anderson is currently serving in his third term as DDPR. Brother Marcus Shute was elected as district counselor in 2019 and served in that role until 2025.
In the summer of 2006, 17 men crossed the burning sands into Omega Land. These men are known as “Tha Charter Line”. The saga of crossing those burning sands continued into Spring 2025 with the latest initiates who will be forever known as the “10 Bargaining Sons of Cosmic Interference.”
Brother Virgil John Maupin was born on March 6, 1975 in Washington, DC. He was a 1997 graduate of Morehouse College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. He was a beloved brother who was a warm and wonderful person with an engaging personality. Brother Maupin entered into Omega Chapter on Thursday, April 13, 2006. He was posthumously recognized as a member of our beloved fraternity by IHQ.
In 2024, Ariah McEwen won the chapter’s talent hunt contest. McEwen won the district’s talent hunt contest which led to her representing Omega Lambda Lambda Chapter and the Fifth District at the Tampa Conclave. Ms. McEwen Is the first talent hunt winner from our chapter to represent the district at the International Conclave. Ms. McEwen also won the chapter’s 2025 talent hunt contest and is the chapter’s first two-time talent hunt winner.
In 2005, Omega Lambda Lambda was named Chapter of the Year for the district. Brother Bryan K. White won Omega Man of the Year for 2005 and Brother Charles F. Wilson won Founder of the Year for 2005.
In 2005, Omega Lambda Lambda hosted the first ever Ques for Christ Revival. This was the first time that a revival was held in the district. Ques for Christ is a yearly event which brings together brothers from the district and members of the community to a local church to give praise, worship, and thanks to our Heavenly Father. On August 22, 2024, Grand Chaplain Brother Roi Johnson was the guest speaker for Ques for Christ. This marked the second time that a Grand Chaplain has given a sermon at this event. Grand Chaplain Brother Farrell Duncombe, was the speaker at the second Ques for Christ Revival, which was held at the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church.
In 2023, Brothers Charles F. Wilson (2-MZ-73), Preston Bailey (25 -Pψ-73) and William Smith (20 Pψ-73) were recognized as being members of our fraternity for 50 years. Brother Bailey in reflecting on his time in the fraternity stated that he is “grateful to be working and encouraging others to be part of the 8 and not the 80.”
Omega Lambda Lambda won the district’s Charles Drew Blood Drive in 2025. The chapter has won 6 out of 7 district blood drives since its inception. Brother Charles Wilson has played a very active role in maintaining the strong relationship between the American Red Cross and the Fifth District. He coordinates at least three annual blood drives with the American Red Cross. As a result of his tireless work, Brother Wilson was appointed to the nationwide Sickle Cell Committee for the American Red Cross.
On April 1, 2006, Omega Lambda Lambda adopted a portion of a roadway in Madison, TN. The chapter has a two mile stretch from Madison to Hendersonville. The district meeting was held in Nashville during that time. The Grand Officers from the fraternity went out to the site and took pictures with the chapter.
Omega Lambda Lambda presented the chapter’s first ever Master Omega Beautillion on November 11, 2017 at the World Baptist Center. The creator of this event was Brother Charles Hopkins and the theme for the beautillion was “Young Men of Integrity: Developing The Future of Young Minds.”
Connie Denell was a cherished jewel of the Nashville radio community who was a great friend and supporter of Omega Lambda Lambda. Denell, who was known as the “Gospel Diva,” was always willing and available to provide her voice and time to numerous chapter events. Ms. Denell passed away on August 24, 2021. Brother Charles Wilson in remembering Sister Denell stated that “Connie was there for him during the passing of his mother. She was a very kind, loving, and sweet person; no one was a stranger to her.”
December 11, 2004 was designated by the brothers as the day to begin their community service. Brother Wilson organized the brothers for a toy drive donation to a local fire station and clothing donations to a local church. The brothers made a public service announcement wishing Nashvillians and Davidson County residents a happy holiday season. The brothers also adopted two families from the McKissack Family Resource Center.
In 2006, Brother Bryan K. White formed a partnership with the Salvation Army which led to the chapter participating in the annual ringing of the bell during the holiday season. Our chapter’s partnership with the Salvation Army has seen significant growth, success, and continues to raise substantial funds for the community. The Salvation Army has noted that Omega Lambda Lambda has been the most impactful organization with regard to fundraising.
On November 18, 2019, Brother Adrian Finch responded to a call to the Natchez Trace Bridge in Williamson County, Tennessee concerning a suicidal teenager. Brother Finch was able to talk the teenager off the ledge and ultimately back onto the bridge. For his efforts, Brother Finch was named Williamson County’s Deputy of the Month for November 2019.
The first 5^th District pin was created by members of the Omega Lambda Lambda chapter. Former DR, Brother Ed Morant requested that the chapter redesign the pin to include the phase “Legendary Fifth District.”
Achievement Week 2007 was truly a special week for our chapter. The brothers celebrated the week which concluded with a fall jazz banquet that was held on the campus of Tennessee State University. The speaker for the evening was the 34^th Grand Basileus of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, Brother C. Tyrone Gilmore, Sr. It is worthy to note that a chapter, which was only 2 years into its existence, had the extraordinary pleasure of hosting both a Grand Basileus and Grand Chaplain at chapter celebrations.
On March 29^th 2025 at the 77^th Fifth District Meeting, Omega Lambda Lambda was named the reclamation chapter of the year. Brother Brian McCartherans (Tree TrunΩ 14-2006-ΩLL) was recognized on both the international and district levels as he was named as the International Individual Reclamation winner for his outstanding effort in reclaiming brothers back into the fold.
Sumner County, Tennessee awarded Omega Lambda Lambda a proclamation on ….
